A dry hole is an unsuccessful or noncommercial well. It may be plugged or used for other purposes such as injection. Dry holes are occasionally called dusters. Because economics and technologies change, yesterday's dry hole may be revived (or a twin to it may be drilled) to yield today's successful well.
