Thermal destruction of organic molecules by cracking to gas in the range approximately 150 to 200°C, which occurs after catagenesis, but before greenschist metamorphism (>200°C); thermal maturity equivalent to the range of 2.0 to 4.0% vitrinite reflectance.[1]
