Dolostone is a term for dolomitized limestone to distinguish the rock from dolomite the mineral. The term has fallen out of favor, and 'dolomite' is now recommended as the name of the rock as well as the mineral.[1] Limestone (calcium carbonate, CaCO3) is dissolved and dolomite (CaMg(CO3)2) is precipitated in the presence of magnesium (Mg).
