In the context of horizontal wells, an additional wellbore drilled away from an original vertical or horizontal wellbore is a sidetrack. A sidetracking operation may be done intentionally or may occur accidentally. A multilateral or multilevel well will have multiple intentional sidetracks drilled to provide multiple productive laterals.
