An effective method of predicting sandstone reservoir system [[porosity]] and [[permeability]] is (1) to predict sandstone porosity and permeability at deposition and then (2) to predict the probable changes to porosity and permeability as the sandstone was buried. Since other texts<ref name=ch09r4>Barwis, J., H., McPherson, J., G., Studlick, J., R., J., 1989, Sandstone Petroleum Reservoirs: New York, Springer-Verlag, 583 p. Contains case histories of fields with reservoirs that represent each of the major depositional environments.</ref><ref name=ch09r20>Galloway, W., E., Hobday, D., K., 1983, Terrigenous Clastic Depositional Systems: Applications to Petroleum, Coal, and Uranium Exploration: New York, Springer-Verlag, 438 p.
