AAPG needs a wiki manager to oversee infrastructure, [[AAPG:content conversion|content conversion]], content creation, the editor community, marketing, events, and communications. This is a very broad role, and will be difficult to perform at first; over time it should split into multiple roles. The wiki is not closely aligned with static web content, but is more akin to the AAPG's nascent blog channel, or its membership engagement functions.

The first person in the role needs a range of skills: community-oriented, content-oriented, and technical. They don't have to be a geoscientist or even a petroleum professional, but it would help.

==Community-oriented skills==
Must have:
* A deep commitment to the power of an aligned, connected technical community, and the notion of crowdsourcing.
* A proven ability to connect and inspire people around scientific content on the Internet or inside an organization.

Nice to have:
* Involvement in Wikipedia or other community wiki, or in some other online content co-creation effort.
* Personal connections to other well-connected people in the AAPG or another subsurface organization and/or membership.

==Content-oriented skills==
Must have:
* Familiarity with scientific publishing and some substantive and copy-editing skills.
* Strong sense of simple and effective communication through digital media, with ideas about user experience, content .

Nice to have:
* Experience building digital media and curating digital content for a broad audience.
* Experience creating links between platforms such as conferences, print media, social media, and static digital content.

==Technical skills==
Must have:
* Some familiarity with markup languages for document formatting, such as HTML, XML, or LaTeX.
* Some familiarity with basic programming concepts, such as databases, procedures, and scripting.

Nice to have:
* Basic understanding of web application server infrastructure would be useful.
* Basic skills in Linux and the Python programming language would be very useful.
