Below are two schematic cross sections showing potential stratigraphic and combination stratigraphic-structural plays associated with sequences and parasequences on shelf-edge and ramp margins. Shelf-edge margins are found in continental margin basins. Ramp margins are found in cratonic, continental margin, or lacustrine basins. The numbers in the cross sections correspond to the numbers in the table.

Play types

The schematic cross section (Figure 1) illustrates different stratigraphic play types in the context of sequence stratigraphy.

Shelf-edge and ramp-type margin traps

Figure 2 shows two schematic cross sections showing potential stratigraphic and combination stratigraphic-structural plays associated with sequences and parasequences on shelf-edge and ramp margins. Shelf-edge margins are found in continental margin basins. Ramp margins are found in cratonic, continental margin, or lacustrine basins. The numbers in the cross sections correspond to the numbers in the table.
